Creating Cleaner Neighborhoods and New and Better Housing Opportunities

Create an Office in the Community Improvement Division to work with neighborhood groups, associations and non-profit organizations to stabilize neighborhoods
Create new housing opportunities for working families
Partner with private developers to utilize publicly-owned, vacant property for residential housing development



Enhancing Local Revenue . . . But Not on the Back of Taxpayers

Petition the State for an annual payment in lieu of taxes to help offset the cost of
maintaining City streets and services
Build on the City’s destination status that was elevated by the construction of the Jackson Convention Complex, by developing projects that create tourism and leisure activities

 

Creating Jobs for Jacksonians

Encourage contractors working on City projects to hire a minimum percentage of Jackson residents
Establish a Job Bank and Training Resources Center and Referral Service for City residents

 

Improving Programs and Services for the Elderly and Youth Development

Create a case management worker service where staff would regularly provide assistance to seniors at City-operated senior centers
Establish urban gardening program for young people that will allow them to learn skills from seniors, while creating economic development opportunities for the participants
Work with JPS to drastically reduce the school dropout rate
Establish an Intercollegiate Council to promote opportunities for young adults to
live, work and raise families in Jackson
